We understand it may not always be possible to visit your vet or pet store to weigh your dog, and there are times when you may want to weigh them at home. For this, follow a simple 3-step process:
Weigh yourself and record your weight.
Then, lift up your dog and step onto the scale. Record your combined weight.
Finally, subtract your weight from the combined weight of you and your dog to determine your dog’s weight.
Tips to keep in mind while weighing your dog:
Use a digital scale as analog scales are not reliable for detecting small weight changes.
Use the same scale for your monthly weight updates, as all scales have some variability.
Ensure your scale is placed on a hard, flat surface to reduce erroneous readings.
Ensure your dog is dry to avoid the excess weight of water in their fur.
If possible, weigh your dog at the same time of the day, preferably on an empty stomach after they’ve visited the toilet, such as early in the morning.
Always check the unit of weight displayed on your scale and on your ilume app. For ease, always use kgs in both to reduce confusion.
